Fans of jazz in Atlanta and beyond know bassist Kevin Smith as a first-rate bassist with impeccable technique, a powerful sense of swing, and sharp musical instincts. Those lucky enough to know him personally descibe Smith as a warm, humourous, incisive, and highly-intellegent man.
When Smith was the victim of a devastating house fire this week that wiped out countless irreplaceable possessions, but thankfully resulted in no injuries, the jazz community rallied to his side, raising more than $10,000 in 24 hours on a GoFundMe page set up by saxophonist and frequent Smith collaborator, Will Scruggs.
