Here are your Atlanta Jazz Notes event listings for August 6th, 2021


Friday, August 6th - Come hear yours truly, Matt Miller on saxophone, and the great keyboardist Emmanuel Chops Smith at the Commerce Club downtown from 6 to 9PM. The music, food, drinks, and views are all on point. 191 Peachtree Tower. 49th Floor.


The PBR Trio featuring Patrick Arthur on guitar and brothers Brandon Boone on bass and Robert Boone on drums will play at Elliott Street Deli and Pub from 9 to 11:30PM. 51 Elliott St. SW.


If you are staying in for the evening, you can still catch amazing live music. The Mike Walton band will perform as part of the fourth installment of the First Friday Jazz Series at the First Congregational Church, UCC. The event will stream live at 6PM. Saturday, August 7th - The Tyrone Jackson Ensemble will perform at Elliott Street Deli and Pub from 9 to 11:30PM. 51 Elliott St. SW.


Also on Saturday, the Joe Gransden Big Band featuring the great Robin Latimore will perform at Oak Street Bottle Shop in Roswell at 8PM. 75a Oak St. Rowell.


Sunday, August 8th - Kevin Bales will bring his Quartet featuring vocalist Keri Johnsrud to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell for his amazing tribute to the music of Fred Rogers, better known as Mr. Rogers. The music and band will be amazing, so be sure to check this out. 7-9PM 9135 Willeo Rd. Roswell.


Also on Sunday, Bassist Curtis Lundy will bring his incredible band featuring pianist Louis Heriveax, vibraphonist Warren Wolf, and drummer Terreon Gully to the Velvet Note in Alpharetta. Don’t miss this one! 4075 Old Milton Pkwy.


Monday, August 9th - Stop by the TEN ATL jam session in East Atlanta. The music goes from 9 until midnight and features a host of great jazz musicians in Atlanta. 495 Flat Shoals Ave SE, Atlanta


Wednesday, August 11th - Head to Red Light Cafe for the weekly jam session led by the great trumpeter and educator Gordon Vernick. I have been going most Wednesdays and the place has been busy and the music has been great. You can hear many of the jazz voices of tomorrow in addition to established veterans. 9 to midnight. 553-1 Amsterdam Ave NE, Atlanta.


Also on Wednesday, check out the Funk Jam at Buteco featuring the drummer Kevin Leon and a host of some of Atlanta’s best musicians. The show lasts from 6-9PM. 1039 Grant St SE
